Semtech Expands Anterix-Compatible Solutions for Utility Infrastructure

AirLink® XR60 5G Router Now Supports Anterix’s 900 MHz Private Spectrum for Mission-Critical Energy Networks

Semtech Corporation, a high-performance semiconductor, Internet of Things (IoT) systems and cloud connectivity service provider, announced a key enhancement to its AirLink router portfolio with additional support for Anterix spectrum.

Anterix, Inc. is the largest holder of licensed spectrum in the 900 MHz band (896-901/935-940 MHz) throughout the United States, including Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. Central to this collaboration between Semtech and Anterix is the integration of the newly standardized Band 106 private LTE band into the ultra-rugged AirLink XR60 5G router tailored to the mission-critical needs of the energy and utility sectors.

The ultra-rugged AirLink XR60 5G router delivers versatile, high-performance connectivity, tailored to the demanding needs of utility networks. Supporting both commercial networks and global private LTE and 5G standalone (SA) bands, it now operates on Anterix’s spectrum, standardized under 3GPP Release 18 as band 106. This advancement positions the XR60 as a pivotal tool in driving the adoption of private networks within the utility sector.

900MHz private LTE is emerging as the benchmark for utility broadband wireless standards, offering critical capabilities such as enhanced visibility, control, quality of service, reliability, and resilience extending all the way to the grid edge. By incorporating this new capability, the XR60 enables utilities to build resilient, future-ready communication networks that enhance grid stability, operational continuity and support long-term infrastructure goals. Its five-year service package includes technical support, hardware warranty and remote management capabilities with AirLink Management Service (ALMS), enabling utilities to optimize, secure and effortlessly scale their router deployments.

“The integration of Anterix support into our AirLink XR60 5G router is transformative for utility operators,” said Kinana Hussain, vice president of networking solutions at Semtech. “This advancement not only enables seamless adoption of private networks but also empowers utilities to future-proof their infrastructure while enhancing the resiliency, efficiency and security critical to their operations.”

“Anterix is thrilled to build on our collaboration with Semtech, a member of the 125+ solutions providers within the Anterix Active Ecosystem. Semtech’s efforts help to expand the reach of our 900MHz private broadband spectrum technology for utilities,” said Steve Ryan, vice president, ecosystem and partnerships at Anterix.

“With this collaboration, utilities gain access to game-changing solutions purpose-built for secure and resilient operations in today’s dynamic energy landscape.”
