Rep. Jared Moskowitz departs Oversight Committee

Rep. Jared Moskowitz does not intend to return to the House Oversight Committee this Congress, four people familiar with the Florida Democrat’s intentions said.

The move comes after Moskowitz was rumored to potentially join the Trump administration and lead the Federal Emergency Management Agency, something he publicly denied. Moskowitz has also been floated as a potential Democratic candidate for governor in Florida.

Despite a relative lack of seniority, Moskowitz was a high-profile member on Oversight last Congress, having several viral moments criticizing Republicans for witnesses and stunts. He become particularly known for sparring with Chair James Comer (R-Ky.).

Moskowitz is angling to join the Judiciary Committee instead, though the decision has not been formally approved by the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee, which controls committee assignments, a person familiar with the request said.

A spokesperson for Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.), the top Democrat on the Oversight Committee, did not immediately return a request for comment.
