At least 6 Senate Dems now say they’ll vote for immigration bill

Sens. Mark Kelly and Jacky Rosen will vote for the Laken Riley Act, becoming the fifth and sixth Senate Democrats who will back the legislation.

To advance the legislation, which mandates detaining undocumented immigrants who are charged with theft or burglary, GOP senators need at least eight Democrats to join them in a procedural vote on Friday. More Democrats are expected to support the measure.

“Senator Kelly will vote for the Laken Riley Act and looks forward to working with Republicans and Democrats on it and other solutions to secure the border and fix our broken immigration system,” said Kelly’s spokesperson, Jacob Peters.

Rosen said in a brief interview Wednesday that she would vote for the legislation as well.

Democratic Sens. John Fetterman (Pa.), Gary Peters (Mich.) and Ruben Gallego (Ariz.) have already indicated they will support the immigration bill. Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) said he’d vote to advance the bill on Friday to begin debate.
